WE ARE NOT JUST A TREND: ART HAS ALWAYS BEEN QUEER
Guided tours and events on queer perspectives in art at the Hamburger Kunsthalle
with Jenny Saitzek, research assistant at the Hamburger Kunsthalle
Throughout art history, there have always been artists whose work has made an important contribution to the visibility of the LGBTIQ*-community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, inter, queer) - including in the collection and exhibitions of the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
Artists and artworks have initiated discussions, introduced new lifestyles and established alternative ideals of beauty - and continue to do so.
In order to promote the visibility of queer themes and content, to celebrate queer culture and (art)history, to offer (regional) queer actors a platform and stage, but also to encourage people outside the queer community to actively support and raise awareness of the concerns of the LGBTIQ*-community, regular guided tours on queer perspectives in art or tours with changing drag queens and kings through the collection and special exhibitions of the Hamburger Kunsthalle take place.
This event is organized by the Hamburger Kunsthalle Freunde & Junge freunde network in partnership with the WFFM, based on an original idea by the German Young Friends network and the International Young Friends Committee of the WFFM.
