Second European Day of Friends of Museums

“Your museums, our passion!”

WFFM Europe gathering national federations and associations from 21 countries has decided to launch an European Day of Friends of Museums.

The European Day aims to celebrate Friends of Museum groups throughout Europe and to raise the profile of the Friends of Museums within their community.

Museum enthusiasts across Europe inaugurated the annual European Day of Friends of Museums on the second Sunday of October.

The purpose is to showcase the passion of Friends of Museums in Europe on a single day when each association highlights the actions it carries out throughout the year and raises the profile of their museum.

The member associations of five European federations took part in the first day on October 8, 2023, with a common European logo and identical communications, joining Italy which had started one year before.

Second European Day of Friends of Museums, Sunday October 13, 2024

Supported by eight Federations, the second European Day of Friends of Museums will take place on Sunday October 13, 2024, and will be celebrated under the common theme that Members have chosen: “Your museums, our passion!”

Friends of Museums shall emphasize that museums are there to be enjoyed by all, that we have a shared responsibility for their preservation and promotion and that the museums are important as spaces of encounter and cultural enrichment for all.

The event would include over a thousand friends of museum associations all over Europe participating on this special day. Each group includes passionate individuals who want to share and spread their enthusiasm and act as ambassadors. Friends support their museums in acquisitions, financing exhibitions and conservation projects, and taking on important tasks in cultural and social education.
